This Greenpeace ad campaign, “Forests for life,” highlights an urgent issue, the continuing destruction of the world’s temperate and tropical forests. The BBC brings us distressing news about rampant felling of forests in Malaysia and Indonesia to create palm oil plantations—ostensibly for “green” biofuels that are anything but green—and from the Amazon, where the rate of deforestation increased in 2008 after falling for the past four years. But there is hope on the horizon: Norway has pledged $1 billion Euros over the next seven years for a new Amazon conservation fund, tied to a 70% decrease in deforestation. Greenpeace—and iWild—say: Why not 100%?
